Kelley Williams-Bolar

Kelley is an Akron, Ohio based single mother. Bolar made headlines in 2011 when she was arrested and later given a felony conviction for sending her two daughters outside of their school district, to a safer and more affluent area of Ohio. Since the incident, Bolar has appeared on various news stations and talk shows and has shared panels with Al Sharpton, Roland Martin, Julie Chen, Kevin Johnson, Leah Remini, Santita Jackson, and Sean Combs about her experience.

Bolar embarked on an unavoidable crusade to bring light to issues of inequality and injustice predominately affecting Americans in poorer areas that are buried in our state laws. In 2013, she was instrumental in getting the laws changed in Connecticut so no other parent will go to jail for ‘district jumping’.

Today, Ms. Bolar dedicates her time to speaking at churches, non-profit organizations and institutions of higher learning about the importance of schools without borders. She also has a Radio Blog where she speaks to individuals that are making a change in her community. And In December 2013, she released her autobiography “The Kelley Williams-Bolar story”.
